      • Bare Rooted

It sounds like you’re referring to Aeonium species, which are known for their beautiful, rosette-shaped arrangements of fleshy leaves. Aeoniums are popular in succulent collections due to their unique rosette forms and variety of colors.

      General Characteristics of Aeonium Rosettes:

      • Foliage: Aeonium rosettes consist of thick, fleshy leaves that grow in a circular, symmetrical pattern, creating a rosette shape. The leaves can vary in color, ranging from green, yellow, and red to deep purple or even variegated patterns. Some species change color depending on the amount of sunlight they receive.
      • Shape and Size: Aeonium rosettes can be small and compact, around 2-4 inches (5-10 cm) in diameter, or they can grow much larger, reaching up to 12 inches (30 cm) or more across, depending on the species. The rosettes are often borne on long, bare stems that can add height and structure to the plant.
      • Flowers: Aeoniums produce tall flower spikes with clusters of small, star-shaped flowers. The flowers are typically yellow or white, depending on the species. After flowering, which usually happens in mature rosettes, the individual rosette may die, but the plant often produces offsets (pups) that continue to grow.

      Care Tips for Aeonium Rosettes:

      • Light: Aeoniums thrive in bright, indirect light to full sun. Adequate sunlight is essential for maintaining their vibrant leaf colors and compact rosette form. However, in very hot climates, they may need some protection from the harshest midday sun to prevent sunburn.
      • Watering: Unlike some other succulents, Aeoniums have a unique growing cycle, often growing during the cooler months and going dormant during the summer. During the growing season, water regularly, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings. In the dormant period, reduce watering significantly as the plant may lose some leaves and require less water.
      • Soil: Use a well-draining soil mix, such as a cactus or succulent mix. Good drainage is crucial to prevent root rot. If planting in a container, ensure there are drainage holes to allow excess water to escape.
      • Temperature: Aeoniums prefer mild temperatures, ideally between 65°F and 75°F (18°C to 24°C). They can tolerate cooler temperatures but should be protected from frost. Extreme heat can also stress the plant, leading it to enter dormancy.
      • Propagation: Aeoniums can be propagated by taking cuttings from rosettes or by removing offsets (pups) that form around the base of the plant. Allow the cuttings to callous over for a few days before planting them in well-draining soil.
      • Maintenance: Regularly remove any dead or dried-up leaves from the rosettes and stems to keep the plant looking tidy. If the plant becomes too leggy or tall, it can be pruned back, and the cuttings can be used to propagate new plants.

Popular Aeonium Species with Rosette Forms:

      1. Aeonium arboreum: Known for its large, tree-like growth habit with dark purple or green rosettes.
      2. Aeonium haworthii: Also known as “Pinwheel Aeonium,” it features smaller rosettes with green leaves and red edges.
      3. Aeonium ‘Zwartkop’: Famous for its deep purple, almost black rosettes that form on tall, slender stems.
